Choose the Right Outfit
The first step to preparing for a senior photo session is selecting the perfect outfit. Consider the location of your session, the season, and your personal style when making your selection. Don't be afraid to bring multiple options to your session and work with your photographer to find the perfect look. Some photographers have additional features in their packages that allow you to browse trendy styles and even order pre-selected styled outfits prior to your session. You should definitely ask for more information if this sounds like you!
Hair and Makeup
Once your outfit is selected, it's time to focus on hair and/or makeup. Whether you prefer to look natural, or you desire a more dramatic look, make sure you schedule a hair and makeup trial prior to the session to ensure you're completely comfortable and confident on the day of the session. For shorter hair styles, you should still ensure your hair length isn’t too long, or short, and test out any new styling techniques prior to your session. Sometimes waiting until the last minute will ensure a level of confidence you do not want to exhibit; remember a photographer cannot capture anything but reality!
Location
The location of your senior photo session can have a big impact on your final gallery. Consider the natural setting, time of day, and the style of photography you prefer when selecting a location. It does not matter if you choose an urban or natural setting, just make sure it reflects your personality and style. It is highly recommended to schedule a golden hour session because the lighting will be the softest and it will result in the most colorful images with you as the center of attention!
Poses
Posing is an important aspect of preparing for a senior photo session. Practice different poses in advance and work with your photographer to find the ones that flatter you best. From classic poses to more creative options, the key is to feel comfortable and confident. If you’re unsure send your photographer an email asking for suggestions or tips!
Props
Props can be a fun way to add personality to your senior photo session. Consider bringing items that reflect your hobbies, interests, or achievements to the session. From musical instruments to personal vehicles, props can add a unique touch to your images!
Picture Perfection
Preparing for a senior photo session takes time and effort, but by focusing on the key elements such as choosing the right outfit, hair and/or makeup, location, poses and props, you can create images that reflect your unique personality and style. With a little bit of preparation, you'll be well on your way to achieving picture perfection!
